Shakti Neural technology can be used to get into altered states of consciousness, though the standard configurations are geared to produce one specific kind - the more introspective, calmer, detached kind. These are often called 'theta' states because the brain produces theta-rythm when these states of conscoiusness are going on. Trance and silent forms of meditation are associated with theta activity.

Although the best known modality for psychic is 'seeing', which implies visual perception, there are other. Some psychics have their perceptions appearing through their own thoughts. Others have a sensation appear in their bodies. Other have a simple sense of 'knowing' that doesn't form into clear perceptions but that still allow them to understand the answer to their inquiry.

It's been laboratory tested and found to elicit psychic perceptions, These include relaxation, meditation, trance, hypnosis, and the Athlete's state of being "in the zone". In principle,

Using magnetic signals for consciousness exploration, spiritual growth, altered-state experience, and learning brain structure and function.

Meditation Enhancement, Out Of Body Experiences, Visions, Altered States, Lucid dreaming, visual enhancements, and other effects have been reported from this technology.

Allan Snyder claims that he can turn on a person's inner Rain Man, and then turn it off again, with the flick of a switch. All it takes is a strange set of electrodes - and a radical new theory of autism, genius and the
human brain.

Allan Snyder says that "switching off" parts of the brain can help people tap into hidden genius. "What I'm looking at right now is creating a real thinking cap." Graham Phillips reports on amazing Australian research into developing scientific tools that can enhance non-conscious problem-solving.

The work is based on the study of "savant syndrome". People with severe mental disorders who can exhibit extraordinary talents in the field of art, music or mathematics. Professor Allan Snyder believes that savant type abilities "reside equally in all of us." He believes we all have access to this fundamental mechanism but with our higher order cognitive processing we are unable to tap into it.

Researchers have found that healthy volunteers showed similar talents when parts of their brains were briefly "switched off", some volunteers were capable of "savant" abilities.

As Phillips reports, Snyder's 'thinking cap' actually exists - when placed on the wearer's head, it is able to temporarily switch off the brain, and clear the way to the hidden talents that could lie inside. Will it work for our intrepid reporter?

Ingo Swann, a remote viewer once employed by government agencies who are not specifically named in the research paper, participated in his series of neurological tests with Dr. Michael Persinger, and the other authors of this paper. Two experiments were done with remote viewing. The first experiment was done by putting 16 pictures and four objects into manilla envelopes. They were selected by a the person knew it never met Ingo Swann and who had no other role in the experiment. They were told to select pictures with strong emotional themes. After the objects and pictures of been selected they were divided into groups of six. Several rooms away, a researcher took out one of the envelopes and put it on a table. He oriented the envelope the way Ingo Swann had asked, and the research paper even gives the size of the table (8,100 cm).

Ingo Swann was told when a picture was on the table, and he would endeavor to view it remotely. Sitting with a sketch pad, he would draw the images that came to him, and then he would ask for another picture.

The other experiment consisted of Ingo Swann remote viewing a pair of the researchers who had been given two pictures randomly selected from a group of nine, all of which depicted places in and around the city where the research took place. Once they had arrived at two locations, the researchers "observed" the place for 15 minutes.

As in the first experiment, Ingo Swann made drawings as he remotely viewed the two researchers. A group of a 44 undergraduate students, who knew nothing about the experiment, were given the job of rating the similarities between the drawings and the pictures of the places as well as the drawings of the pictures and objects - the ones in the manilla envelopes. They also rated the similarity between the content of Swann's drawings and photographs of the places the researchers had visited. In addition, they also rated the similarities between the emotional connotations of the words Ingo Swann used, and the mood of the photos. A picture of a tornado, for example could be called dark and threatening, but not warm and cuddly.

While this was going on, he also received neural stimulation using the "octopus", as well as EEG monitoring

What if you could become a savant for a few minutes? Australian National University neuroscientist Allan Snyder says you can. Snyder induced instantaneous "jelly-bean counting" skills in normal people using transcranial magnetic stimulation. He used the powerful magnetic pulses to zap the brains of 12 volunteers, disrupting activity in the left anterior frontal lobe, an area where damage is known to cause sudden savant syndrome. For an hour or so after treatment, 10 of the volunteers were twice as accurate in guessing at a glance the number of dots flashed on a computer screen. "This is an extraordinarily good result—I'm amazed it came out so well," Snyder says.

When Snyder used the same technique three years ago to induce episodes of savantlike artistic ability in ordinary people, skeptics objected to his claims, saying that artistic abilities were too subjective to judge. But numbers don't lie, says Eric Wassermann of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke. "There's nothing that looks bogus about it."

The KOREN HELMET rotates the signals between coils.

The 8-coil Shakti works in a similar way, using the two stereo channels in your sound card.

The 8-COIL Shakti For Windows headset alternates the signals between two sets of coils to approximate the effects of rotation.

The alternating signal headsets have eight coils to make sure you are able to apply the signal to both sides of your head. This is a safety feature, and cannot be dispensed with.

Eight coils, applied over both sides, maximize your chances for a intense spiritual experience using Shakti For Windows.

From New Scientist (4/21/01)

"For several years, Persinger has been using a technique called transcranial magnetic stimulation to induce all sorts of surreal experiences in ordinary people (New Scientist, 19 November 1994, p 29). Through trial and error and a bit of educated guesswork, he's found that a weak magnetic field--1 microtesla, which is roughly that generated by a computer monitor--rotating anticlockwise in a complex pattern about the temporal lobes will cause four out of five people to feel a spectral presence in the room with them."

"How does Dr Persinger artificially induce religious experiences in his patients?

"Dr Persinger has designed a helmet that produces a very weak rotating magnetic field of between ten nanotesla and one microtesla over the temporal lobes of the brain. This is placed on the subject's head and they are placed in a quiet chamber while blindfolded. So that there is no risk of 'suggestion', the only information that the subjects are given is that they are going in for a relaxation experiment. Neither the subject nor the experimenter carrying out the test has any idea of the true purpose of the experiment. In addition to this, the experiment is also run with the field switched both off and on.
This procedure Dr Persinger claims will induce an experience in over 80% of test subjects."

The power of moving magnetic signals is illustrated in one study where 3 volunteers were given LSD and were given sessions with the Koren Helmet. When the coils were moving, the subjects saw "blobs of white, purplish, or greenish-yellow lights ". When the magnets (ordinary horseshoe magnets, not the coils or signals used in Shakti For Windows) weren't moving, the subjects didn't see these lights. And those were common magnets, not much different from the kind you might have on your refrigerator................

The God Helmet is a popular name given to a laboratory apparatus more correctly called the "Koren Helmet", after Stanley Koren of Laurentian University's Neuroscience Department, who built it according to specifications provided by Dr. M.A. Persinger, it's director.

"I asked Dr. Persinger how many people had seen God using the Koren Helmet, and this is what he said in reply:

"The problem is producing an environment in which people will report what they experience without anticipating ridicule on the one hand and not encouraging this type of report (demand characteristics) on the other.

Thus far, about 20 or so people have reported feeling the presence of Christ or even seeing him in the chamber (The acoustic chamber where the experimental sessions took place). Most of these people used Christ and God interchangeably. Most of these individuals were older (30 years or more) and religious (Roman Catholic). One male, age about 35 years old (alleged atheist but early childhood RC (Roman Catholic) training), saw a clear apparition (shoulders and head) of Christ staring him in the face. He was quite "shaken" by the experience. I did not complete a follow-up re: his change in behavior. Of course these are all reports. What we did find with one world-class psychic who experiences Christ as a component of his abilities was we could experimentally increase or decrease his numbers of his reported experiences by applying the LTP pattern (derived from the hippocampus) over the right hemisphere (without his awareness)."

Used as a research tool to investigate the brain's role in religious and mystic experiences, the Koren Helmet has been given the name God Helmet. A few Journalists gave it this name when they learned that some people had visions of God while participating in Koren Helmet experiments. The name has stuck, 80% of the subjects felt a presence of some kind, but did not call it God. Of course, there were probably some subjects who experienced an appearance of God, but were shy about saying they had seen God in a laboratory. That kind of thing is not only intensely personal, but can also get you ridiculed.

With the 8-Coil Shakti, you can activate your brain, one part at a time. If you like the altered state a particular session brings up, you can repeat it (with specific schedules) often enough that your brain 'learns' to access the effects on it's own. If you don't like the effects of a particular session, don't repeat it.

God and the Brain - The Persinger 'God Helmet', The Brain, and visions of God. by Todd Murphy

This talk, called "God and the Brain", is a discussion of the Persinger "God Helmet" (actually the Koren Helmet) and the 8 Coil Shakti. It covers visions of God, Near-Death Experiences, and other themes in neurotheology, the field that integrates neuroscience and spirituality. This is the first of six lectures on Spirituality and the Brain by Todd Murphy, inventor of the 8 Coil Shakti and the Shiva Neural Stimulation system, which duplicates the procedures used in the God Helmet experiments. He has been a member of Laurentian University's Behavioral Neuroscience research group, under the direction of Dr. M. A. Persinger since 1998.

Understanding Psychic Skills

There were a series of experiments, which we look at on a page in the software that demonstrated the accuracy of some psychic reports. On this page, we're not going to ask if psychic skills are 'real'. We're going to make the assumption that they are, knowing that there are many who make the opposite assumption.

Now, using the tremendous power that a good assumption confers on those who accept it, we can ask how psychic skills work. There are several assumptions we have to make in order to explain how psychic skills work. In doing so, we go a bit beyond the scope of the studies that inspired the Shiva neural stimulation device.

Although the underlying mechanisms for all such perceptions are very similar, different psychic skills call for different explanations. Remote viewing and telepathy involve perception in spite of spatial distances, while precognition involves seeing things in spite of temporal distance.

Let's look at remote viewing and telepathy first.

The best way to start is to define the words. Telepathy is "... a significant correlation between specific components of the behavior of a stimulus person and of a response person" (Persinger).

Remote viewing is "... awareness of distant objects or places without employing normal senses" (Persinger).

Precognition is "Awareness of events which occur after their perception" (Author).

These aren't absolute definitions. They're only intended to give us working definitions for this one article. There are many psychics would would offer different definitions, and there are other researchers who have their own way of seeing things. These are taken from some of the research publications describing the technology Shiva Neural Stimulation is based on.

Your brain produces electrical signals as it operates. Shakti For Windows applies magnetic signals to your head that mimic these signals. Because some brain structures have known 'signatures', they can be 'targeted' by applying their signature signals. EEG (electroencephalography) reads the electrical activity from the brain, and it's 'traces' are the original source for most of the signals used in Shakti For Windows.

Most Shakti signals are derived from EEG traces

The target structures respond to these signals and, to a lesser extent, other structures connected to it.
.Shakti For Windows has session designs to facilitate: Out-of-body experiences ~ Lucid Dreaming ~ Bliss and other positive feelings ~ Remote viewing ~ And More.

Each brain is different, and there are many ways to use SHAKTI For Windows. Your experiences will depend on what you're prone to, and the choices you make in using it.

Not everyone is equally sensitive to this kind of mind-machine, but the Shakti project yielded observations that can help slow starters get going.

With the 8-Coil Shakti, you can activate your brain, one part at a time. If you like the altered state a particular session brings up, you can repeat it (with specific schedules) often enough that your brain 'learns' to access the effects on it's own. If you don't like the effects of a particular session, don't repeat it.

One of the ways this technology has been effective is as a meditation enhancement. Meditation can be improved when sessions are done so that they end about an hour beforehand. The same thing has been reported by people who are using other mind-machines after their Shakti sessions. Using other mind machines, or doing meditation during Shakti sessions doesn't work as well. The 8-coil Shakti can induce induce spiritual experiences and transformation for many people when used according to instructions. It's also a powerful tool for consciousness exploration.

The 8-Coil Shakti represents a new generation of a technology developed at Laurentian University's Behavioral Neurosciences Program, under the direction of Dr. Michael A. Persinger. In laboratory settings, this class of technology had succeeded in inducing experiences that people call religious, spiritual, or mystical.

This refers to deep states of relaxation as well as 'visions', enhancements in dreaming, mood elevations, and a whole range of 'special' experiences.

Shakti (and it's predecessors) rely on a simple idea. It started with two EEG (electroencephalograph) signals taken from parts of the brain that are known to be involved in religious experiences (the amygdala and the hippocampus). These two structures turn out to be where the seizures begin in epileptics who had blissful or visionary seizures (not a common type of seizure, but it does exist). In addition to these two sigals, several others have been added, including one from the caudate nucleus (a structure that relaxes on one side and energizes on the other). Others are derived from frequencies or mixes of frequencies that appear when EEG signals are 'averaged'.

These EEG signals were converted into data files, and eventually into audio files, which play out through a sound card.

Instead of being played through speakers or headphones, they are 'played' through a set of magnetic coils, which produces magnetic signals instead of sounds.

Their magnetic signals 'match' the electrical signals from the structures we work with. As a Shakti session proceeds, these structures become more and more active.

It uses additional principles,
which you can learn about HERE

For most people, 10 minutes later, they start to feel something. Half an hour into the session, that feeling becomes stronger, and it begins to shape the person's experience, if the session is successful. Sensory deprivation helps elicit effects during the session.

A Few Lab Reports:

Examples of dialog (from audiotape) from subjects participating in these experiments. Source

Subject 1
A Middle-aged professional journalist. Chirp signal applied over the right side.

"I see shadows along my left side . . . there is someone touching my left side . . . there is a flash of light . . . a tunnel experience. I feel as if I am shrinking and expanding. There is a tingling inside of my thigh . . . sexual excitement. There's a cold rush (subject shivered; EEG showed paroxysmal activity). I see a visual... it's an apparition."

Subject 2
A 21-year-old female with history of diabetes. Amygdala signal applied over both sides

"I felt a presence behind me and then along the left side. When I tried to focus on its position, the presence moved. Every time I tried to sense where it was, it moved around. When it moved to the right side, I experienced a deep sense of security like I had not experienced before. I started to cry when I felt
it slowly fade away" (the field parameters had been changed).

Subject 3
A 30-year-old woman. Chirp signal applied over the right side

"I feel detached from my body. I am floating up . . . there is a kind of vibration moving through my sternum . . . there are odd lights or faces along my left side. My body is becoming very hot. . . . tingling sensations in my chest and stomach . . . now both arms. There is something feeling my ovaries. I can
feel my left foot jerk. I feel there is someone in the room behind me."

Subject 4
A 25-year-old man, childhood history of three "mild" head injuries. Chirp signal applied over both sides

"I feel as if there was a bright white light in front of me. I saw a black spot that became a kind of funnel . . . no tunnel that I felt drawn into. I felt moving, like spinning forward through it. I began to feel the presence of people, but I could not see them; they were along my sides. They were colorless, grey-looking. I know I was in the chamber but it was very real. I suddenly felt intense fear and felt ice cold."

In fact, it's crucial for intense sessions. A large portion of the temporal lobe's ongoing activity is devoted to monitoring ambient sounds. Silence is an important part of any sessions intended to create powerful experiences. Above all, relax during your Shakti sessions. Expectation 'tasks' the frontal lobes, and their activation can stand in the way of 'going within'.

Sensory deprivation isn't needed for sessions designed with lasting effects in mind.
Unlike the other versions of Shakti, the 8-Coil Shakti alternates the signals beween two pairs of coils. It's more able to induce the intense sessions demonstrated in television documentaries. It uses additional principles, which you can learn about HERE

One question that comes up often about the Koren Helmet is whether it's possible to obtain one. The Koren Helmet is found only in the laboratory where it was made, and is not available to the public. However, a PC version of the God Helmet, The Shakti Neural Stimulation System, does exist.
